Tuscaloosa Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
Treating Critically Ill & Injured Patients
Patients who need around-the-clock, complex or highly specialized critical care are admitted to our Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for specialized treatment by a team of health care specialists in a variety of fields. Our ICU is staffed by a coordinated multidisciplinary team of board-certified critical care physicians and highly trained ICU nurses. Others who may be involved in a patient’s care may include respiratory therapists and skilled specialty physicians.
Information for ICU Visitors
Visitation is allowed 24 hours a day, although it is not available during shift changes or to accommodate the patient’s condition and privacy needs. We ask that all visitors who feel unwell postpone their visits until they do feel well again. Certain items are prohibited in the ICU, including fresh flowers, latex balloons and pets. Food and beverages cannot be left in the room, for the purpose of infection control. In the event of an emergency during your visit, you may be asked to leave the unit to ensure high-quality patient care.
