DCH Welcomes Fitzgerald Washington to the Board of Directors

DCH Health System is proud to announce the appointment of Fitzgerald Washington to its Board of Directors. With a distinguished career spanning both the corporate and public sectors, Washington brings extensive leadership experience that will be instrumental in advancing DCH’s mission.

"Fitzgerald Washington’s leadership, dedication to community engagement, and proven ability to drive meaningful change will be invaluable as DCH continues to enhance healthcare services for West Alabama," said David Hudson, DCH Board Chair. “His leadership will help influence how DCH provides care to the communities we serve for generations to come.”

Washington currently serves as Corporate Director of External Affairs & Community Engagement at Buffalo Rock Company, where he leads initiatives to strengthen community partnerships and corporate responsibility efforts.

Previously, he served as Alabama’s Secretary of Labor for an unprecedented decade, first appointed in 2014. Retiring in October 2024 as the longest-serving Secretary of Labor in the department’s history, Washington played a key role in achieving Alabama’s lowest-ever unemployment rate and highest workforce participation levels. His leadership in workforce development and economic growth has left a lasting impact on the state.

Washington replaces Dr. Linda Olivet, who has served on the DCH Board with dedication and distinction. DCH extends its deepest gratitude to Dr. Olivet for her years of service and commitment to the health and well-being of our community.

The DCH Health System Board of Directors consists of nine members, each serving six-year terms. Members are appointed by the Tuscaloosa City Council (2), Tuscaloosa County Commission (2), Northport City Council (1), the medical staffs of DCH Regional Medical Center and Northport Medical Center (2), and the board itself (2).
