Announcing the 2024 PHIL Award Winner

The PHIL Award -- Pulmonary Health & Illness of the Lungs -- is the only nationally recognized hospital-based program that honors respiratory therapists. This award was established by the FACES Foundation to recognize outstanding respiratory therapists who provide care and treatment for patients with respiratory illnesses.

Quinton had several nominations from areas throughout the hospital, including:

"I had a patient that was in respiratory distress after surgery and needed ABGs – He came to the unit quickly and was able to obtain ABGs quickly. He was calm and supportive of nursing staff while patient was being re-intubated. Every encounter with him is pleasant. I enjoy the consistency and would trust him to be respiratory therapist if I was a patient."

"Quinton was one of the first therapists I worked with during my orientation period. I learned that Quinton had only been a therapist for a little over a year, which was surprising to me based off of his capabilities as a RT. Quinton cares so much for his patients and "developing his craft" as a therapist as he would say. I would walk in the RC department and if he wasn't busy at the moment he would be researching ventilator graphics and disease processes, anything respiratory related because he wants his patients to receive the best care he can possibly provide. I have nothing but respect for who Quinton is as a therapist. It was very refreshing to see such a new therapist deeply invested in being the best. In the short time I was employed at DCH, there was no other staff RT that worked harder than Quinton. I believe he is the epitome of The PHIL Award."

"Quinton came to the rescue during a situation we had where a patient needed a CPAP quickly and he came with a smile on his face to help. Shortly after this another patient was “crashing” and he stayed with the patient and made sure he was stable and checked on the nurses before leaving."

"Quinton was in the PACU with us during an emergency situation. He is always right there when we call with a smiling face! No matter the situation, he always stays calm and treats the patient with the utmost care. DCH is very lucky to have him and so are we!"

"Quinton is so great! Anytime we call him, he comes without hesitation. He is always willing to help us with anything. He really cares about his patients and their well-being. Thank you, Quinton, for always going above and beyond for not only patients but for the nurses of PACU as well."

"Quinton has done a great job stepping into the role as Charge RT/SWAT. I consistently see him sitting in rooms and holding patients’ hands and talking/calming them as well as the families. Consistently visitors and patients will call for him by name to help with any of their respiratory needs. He brings a calming presence in a stressful time for patients."

"Quinton took amazing care of my husband. He was friendly and kept me informed with everything he was doing! I could not thank him enough!"

Recipients are nominated by patients, their family members and other caregivers/co-workers. If you wish to nominate a DCH respiratory therapist for this award, click here.
