DCH Coronavirus Update 1-27-22

Trustee Hall Demolition

Earlier this week a crew began the demolition of the small, four-story building known as Trustee Hall. The building was completed in 1952 and served as a dorm for students at the DCH nursing school (a program which was later integrated into the University of Alabama curriculum). The building went through several more transitions of use through the years, including a care facility for mental health and finally office space for departments including Human Resources, Finance and Marketing.

After nearly 70 years of service, the building had continual maintenance issues and had reached the end of its usable life. The Trustee Hall demolition is part of a larger project to replace the nearly 50 year old South Parking Deck. For now, Trustee Hall will be replaced by a parking lot that will allow for about 165 cars, and will help accommodate patients and visitors during the time the parking garage is replaced. COVID Update

To protect patient privacy, DCH has established a minimum threshold of five for reporting numbers of inpatients with laboratory-confirmed cases of COVID-19.

DCH Health System internal counts as of 2:36 p.m. on 1/27/22:

• 172 inpatients within the DCH system who are positive for COVID-19.
• 26 inpatients who are positive for COVID-19 are being treated in the ICU.
• 13 inpatients who are positive for COVID-19 are on ventilators.
• 14,240 (cumulative) unique positives for COVID-19 tests including results from the ED, triage tent and inpatient. These individuals are not necessarily in the hospital.
• 56,359(cumulative) unique negatives for COVID-19 at DCH sites.
• 17,335 (cumulative) positive COVID-19 at DCH sites. These individuals are not necessarily in the hospital.
• 124,746 (cumulative) negative tests at DCH sites.
• 4,653 inpatients (cumulative) who were positive for COVID-19 have been discharged.
• 813 inpatients (cumulative) who were positive for COVID-19 have died at DCH. This is not an indication of the cause of death, only that the individuals were positive for COVID-19 at the time of death.
