DCH Coronavirus Update 10-9-20

Free Breast Cancer Screening Events
The Lewis and Faye Manderson Cancer Center is hosting two breast cancer educational and screening events. Participants will learn about breast cancer and receive an appointment for a free mammogram. Due to COVID-19, only those who are preregistered, fever free and wearing a mask will be allowed in.
Women who qualify to participate must be 40 years or older, have no personal history of breast cancer, have not had a mammogram in the last 12 months, have little or no health insurance and live in the 11-county DCH service area.
The general event will be held at the Manderson Cancer Center on Monday, Oct. 19, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Preregistration is required by Oct. 14.
A Latina community event (exclusivo para la comunidad Latina) will be held at the Manderson Cancer Center on Monday, Oct. 26, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Preregistration is required by Oct. 21.

Testing and Confirmed Cases
To protect patient privacy, DCH has established a minimum threshold of five for reporting numbers of inpatients with laboratory-confirmed cases of COVID-19.
DCH internal counts as of 2:20 p.m. on 10/9/20:
- 62 inpatients are being treated for COVID-19.
- 19 inpatients who are positive for COVID-19 are being treated in the ICU.
- 9 who are positive for COVID-19 are on ventilators.
- Five or fewer who are positive for COVID-19 are on a BiPAP.
- 3,436 (cumulative) unique positives for COVID-19 tests including results from the ED, triage tent and inpatient. These individuals are not necessarily in the hospital.
- 23,262 (cumulative) unique negatives for COVID-19 at DCH sites.
- 4,413 (cumulative) positive COVID-19 at DCH sites. These individuals are not necessarily in the hospital.
- 35,297 (cumulative) negative tests at DCH sites.
- 1,049 inpatients (cumulative) who were positive for COVID-19 have been discharged.
- 202 inpatients (cumulative) who were positive for COVID-19 have died at DCH. This is not an indication of the cause of death, only that the individuals were positive for COVID-19 at the time of death.
- 111 Tuscaloosa County residents (cumulative) who were positive for COVID-19 have died (per the Alabama Department of Public Health).
