Phifer and More

Community members and businesses from Tuscaloosa and surrounding areas have shown a great deal of kindness and generosity to DCH over the past few months. Initially, it was unclear how to best channel the desire to help. But some creativity and ingenuity soon resulted in face shields, masks of every kind, meals for employees, hand sanitizer, cards, artwork and so much more.
An example of this dedication is Phifer Inc. Employees at the company (John Southall and Annie Thomas pictured) have been producing 500 masks for DCH every week for more than a month. So far they have made 2,500. Thank you!
Over 300 community members and businesses rallied around a sterilization fabric project. In total, they have produced over 14,500 masks! Since each of these mask types can be sterilized and reused up to 15 times, that equates to nearly 220,000 masks that DCH would have tried to purchase at a time when they were very scarce.
Additionally, over 2,000 cotton masks have been sewn and donated by community members and over 500 T-shirts provided to make ear ties for our own mask-making efforts.
To the community we serve, thank you for your service to us. All of your contributions have lifted our hearts and helped in a time of need. You have made a difference in this fight against COVID-19.
