Fayette Medical Center’s Laboratory recently received accreditation from the College of American Pathologists. The accreditation was based on results from a recent on-site inspection as part of CAP’s accreditation program.
During the CAP accreditation process, inspectors examine the laboratory’s records and quality control procedures for the preceding two years. Laboratory staff qualifications, equipment, facilities, safety program, and record and overall management are also reviewed during the process.
“We are extremely pleased to have achieved this designation,” said Donald Jones, Fayette Medical Center administrator. “Accreditation is a rigorous process, but one that we welcome as a continual quality improvement tool. Earning CAP accreditation is another measure of our excellence and commitment to live our mission as we serve to improve the health of our patients and community.”
Fayette Medical Center’s Laboratory is one of more than 8,000 CAP-accredited facilities worldwide. CAP accreditation is valid for two years and maintained through continuous compliance with the Terms of Accreditation. The U.S. federal government recognizes the CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program as being equal to or more stringent than the government’s own inspection program.
