Fayette Medical Center Now Offers Advanced Three-Dimensional Mammography Services

(June 23, 2023, Fayette, Ala.) Fayette Medical Center is the only hospital of its size in the West Alabama area to offer the latest in three-dimensional mammography services with its new Hologic Selina Dimensions 3D Performance mammography system.

“This mammography system is a huge addition to our imaging services,” said Donald Jones, administrator of Fayette Medical Center. “It allows us to provide the very latest in mammography services to the people of our community. People in Fayette and surrounding areas no longer have to drive between 50 and 75 miles for these types of procedures.”

The new system offers traditional breast biopsy capabilities as well as the capability to perform stereotactic breast biopsies.

“This flexibility allows the surgeon, radiologist and technologist to work together to provide a less invasive biopsy sample that is less time consuming, less painful, breast conserving and more accurate,” said Dr. Mark Randall, a general surgeon at Fayette Medical Center.

“The system gives our imaging technologists a high quality view of the images to help see small abnormalities,” added Dr. Jason Stuckey, a radiologist at Fayette Medical Center. “The position of the unit’s monitor also gives the technologist the ability to see the images and make adjustments in position without leaving the patient’s side. This advanced technology is transformational for outcomes and patient experience.”

Patient comfort is also at the forefront with this new mammography unit with its Smartcurve Breast Stabilization System. The curved paddles provide comfort during the procedure by better conforming to the contour of the breast.
